Martina,

AVIC holds monthly business meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at Revealing Truth, 4539 Fern Ave, Lancaster.

The public is welcome.

Throughout the year, we hold three events to which we welcome everyone in the AV. These are Interfaith Harmony Week in February, National Day of Prayer Service on the 1st Thursday of May, and our annual Thanksgiving Service in November.

I just discovered the information I gave above was not exactly correct. Actually, the food comes to us at a cost of $95 for 3 tons. We typically receive 12 tons of food per truck load. Our weekly food costs are detailed as follows:

Food: $380/12 tons
Freight: 185
Truck Rental: 185
Fuel: 240

TOTAL $990

Thank you in advance for your time. we would appreciate the opportunity of discussing with you how we can collectively help our neighbors in this part of the Antelope Valley.

Working with Love's Open Door Mission in Littlerock, our group has recently established a non-denominational food pantry for the low-income residents of Lake Los Angeles. Having been open for the last month, High-Desert Food Pantry has distributed food to approximately 100 families on a weekly basis.

The food we are supplied with comes at no cost. However, we are responsible for freight charges which is approximately $185 per ton. Our average shipment has been three tons, a total of $555, not including the truck rental and fuel costs.

We are asking for help on two issues. First, we would appreciate your help in getting the word out to people who need food support. We are here to help them. Second, any help that can be provided in the way of donations would be appreciated. If possible, We would like the opportunity of attending your next meeting on March 14th to discuss our organization. Thank you in advance.

Hi Deborah,

I believe we may have met at some time over the past few years, but I'm not sure. I was a counselor at Antelope Valley College for 18 years and Dean of Counseling my final two years before retiring. I now teach Psychology at the college as an adjunct instructor.

I am contacting you to see if the Interfaith Council might be an avenue for spreading the word about a initiative to get GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) foods labeled so Californians have a choice to consume GMO foods or not. Presently, no labeling is required so a person does not know if they are consuming these foods. Because there is much science emerging that demonstrates the dangers to human health, it's important for people to know when a food contains GMO's and exercise their right to consume them or not. If you want to learn more about this initiative or the impact of GMO's on our food supply, please go to labelgmos.org.

I would like to personally meet with you at your earliest convenience to further discuss this issue and the possibility of scheduling a presentation for the Interfaith Council with the goal of determining how best to inform the congregations of council members about this issue. It's an issue that impacts all of us regardless of our faith and if we consider that our bodies are the temple of our souls, it seems prudent that we are informed about what we put into our bodies and assert our right to determine what foods are most appropriate to sustain our body temple.

Thank you for your time. I looked forward to discussing this issue with you further.

Warmly,

Richard J Manley
